Rob Richardson is running for his second term as Frankfort City Commissioner, committed to continuing his work to strengthen public safety, increase city revenue, reduce unnecessary expenditures, and lead with vision and accountability for the citizens of Frankfort.
A 1987 graduate of Madison Central High School in Richmond, Kentucky, Rob went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Police Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. In 1994, he was hired by the Frankfort Police Department and made Frankfort his home. Rob began his law enforcement career as a Patrol Officer and steadily advanced through the ranks over a distinguished 23-year career. His leadership roles included Patrol Sergeant (2002), Patrol Assistant Commander and Lieutenant (2003), Professional Standards and Training Lieutenant (2007), Patrol Commander and Captain (2010), Criminal Investigations Commander and Captain (2013), and ultimately Assistant Police Chief (Major) later that same year. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he completed 10 weeks of advanced professional development training. Rob played an integral role in the Frankfort Police Department’s accreditation initiatives, helping ensure the department met rigorous standards in policies, procedures, and operations. In 2017, he retired from the Frankfort Police Department after more than two decades of service to the community. Continuing his commitment to public safety and effective governance, Rob began working in 2017 with the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police as a Law Enforcement Liaison. In this role, he works closely with legislative leaders, supports law enforcement program development, and facilitates communication between law enforcement agencies and state government cabinets. With decades of leadership experience, a proven record of service, and a deep commitment to the Frankfort community, Rob Richardson is ready to continue moving Frankfort forward.
Rob’s dedication to his community extends beyond public service. He is an active member of Capital Christian Church and has proudly served on the boards of the Sunshine Center and United Way of Franklin County. Through his faith and community involvement, Rob remains committed to supporting local families, strengthening community partnerships, and helping ensure that those in need have access to vital resources and support services.
Rob’s leadership extends across the Commonwealth through his service in statewide professional organizations. He is a Past President of the Kentucky Tactical Officers Association and also previously served as President of the FBI National Academy Associates (FBINAA) Kentucky Chapter. In addition, Rob is a Founding Board Member of the Kentucky Tactical Officers Association. Through these leadership roles, Rob worked to strengthen training standards, promote officer safety, and enhance collaboration among law enforcement agencies across Kentucky.
